Praise from our Listeners!

These are a few of the emails we have received from our wonderful listeners all over the world.

************

Hi Dr. Lucy Tse and Dr. Jeff McQuillan,

How can I tell you my gratitude? One year ago I was unable to write you. One year ago I was unable to understand a phrase and even less to speak, though I learned English during eight years till I was 19.

The first podcast I heard was "Buying a Bicycle #213." I found it wonderful. Since the 4 of November 2006 I listened to all your podcast, and some many times. Your method is perfect. You are both very sympathetic. I spend so much time with you that you seem to me close friends!

Today I thank you: yesterday I passed a job interview in English (Hopefully the man had just one head ;-) ) and I surprised myself! I could say fluently what I want to say without searching for my words! I did not realize before that I can. I knew that my understanding and my reading had improved but what about my speaking? Now I know.
I wanted to tell you that we, my family, had planned to settle in Australia, in Perth exactly. Thanks to you it is possible today.

And maybe one day if we take some holiday in "Beautiful Los Angeles" we'll make you a little visit just to say thank you very much.

Thank you, my friend.

Cordially,
Luc (from France)
__________

Dear Jeff!

First I want to say to you thanks a lot for the job you do. I have been listening to your podcasts, I mean English Cafe, about half of the year and my level or my language skills have considerably grown. It’s a fact.

I think that you use the right way of teaching people English. This method is simple and understandable. After 3-3,5 months of listening I have suddenly realized that I understand all of what you talk about. It was like a burst. Your method really works. I have passed on to other levels in the knowing of English at least in the listening practice. Besides, my speaking skill became much better. Of cause it’s not fluent but phrases or simple sentences are formed rather quickly in my head and that’s pleasant.

I must say I was testing one more way in addition to the listening. After 2-3 times of listening to a podcast I was doing a transcript. It was very interesting and instructive. Of cause words and sentences you would use are simple but that is what we need now.
There is an interesting topic. Your stories or texts usually have a concern with today’s US and so forth but sometimes you include short episodes from your life or your family life. This fact makes it easier for us to approach you and now and then I feel I’m your good friend or at least a passing acquaintance.

Thank you very much once more.

Best wishes,
Valery (from Russia)

Hi!

Thanks for the ESL podcast. It was a great help! I listened to it about two years ago, and got 650(PBT) on my TOEFL. Now I'm at UCSB, getting my master's degree.

Thank you!

__________

Dear Dr. Jeff McQuillan,

I would like to thank you for your web site. I tried many other sites and podcasts with English study but now I am sure yours is the best. I think this opinion is not only mine. It has always been quite difficult for me learning English. Once in a while I lost my interest in what I listened to because I could understand only a few words. Now with your podcasts listening has become much more interesting, cause after repeating your podcast several times and your clear explanations I can understand the text quite well. Sometimes I forget I am listening to the podcast in English but not in my native Russian language. Moreover I can listen my ipod right at my work during the day. Thank you for what you are doing again very much!!!

Hi,

I have been listening to your podcasts since August 2006. My English really improved ever since: last year my marks were around 13 out of 20, this year it's around 16.?And I just got my results for the TOEIC exam : 890 out of 990 ! I guess I would never have such a score without listening to ESLPOD.

Thanks again for your work !

Dear Dr. Tse AND Dr. McQuillan,

When I came to the U.S, about 2 years ago, my English level was very very poor. But I have had a dream to speak English as close as possible to a native speaker, and you have an important part in enabling me go a long way toward my dream.

Since I found your podcast a half a year ago, I try to listen to it as much as I can, in a repetitive manner, and I found it as a very effective way to improve my speaking. Now I'm also a member.

Thanks.

Asaf (in the U.S., from Israel)
__________

Dear Jeff,

I'm writing to you this time because I want to congratulate your team on the previous podcast. It was a big help for me in preparation for examination. And last week I got the results. I have pass this examination in both parts with good results.

Thank you. Keep the producing of podcasts up! In my opinion it's a good way to learn how to say something in English and what my dialog partner replies.

So, thanks for reading this mail and I hope to hear from you soon.

Best regards,
Daniel (from Germany)
__________

Dear Jeff, Lucy and co-workers,

For your information I was struggling with English for nearly 10 years ago. In order for me to get my English speaking more fluent I had used all the possible ways in front of me; from speaking in front of mirror to attending English course. Honestly I was not satisfied with them as I always felt not confident. By chance, I got familiar with your website a month ago. Suddenly I found the course that I was looking for since a long time ago and then new windows of hope were opened for me. I found it !!! I found it!!!

I really do not know how to thank you, but I 'appeal' to you to please continue your work in teaching people who are suffering from English from all over the world!!! You are the only hope that I have, and I do not want to miss out at all. Everyday it has become my task to follow up with your lessons repeatedly so that all the expressions remain in my mind. I now feel much more confident. The only thing that I can do for you is to pray for you and ask the almighty to bless you all.

Yours,
Majid (from Sweden)

Hello!

I just wanted to express my gratitude to the team that records the ESL podcasts. I’m an English learner and I enjoy listening to these podcasts, because they’re very interesting and easy to listen to for those who have English as a second language and don’t have enough skill yet to understand the news or any other podcasts with the usual unadapted American speech. Also, listening to these podcasts I get to know so much more about your country and the life of people in it.

So, thank you so much for this excellent work! Keep it up!

Respectfully yours,
Eldar (from Russia)

Hi, I'm Marco from Italy. I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your podcasts and I think that they are the most useful resources I've ever encountered to improve my English and my knowledge about American culture. I particularly like the English Café and the Interview Questions Answered. And I really like Dr. McQuillan's sense of? humor.
Keep doing what you do.

ESL Podcast Rocks.

Ciao,

I've been listening your podcasts for a while and I think it's time to email you and let you know how much I appreciate the tremendous effort of placing all these English material (on your website). Just the right stuff to teach beginners and intermediate students. Dear Eslpod,

This is the first time I send an email in English. If something is wrong, my grammar is terrible, please forgive me.

I am Thai living in Thailand. Although English is not my first language, I tried my best to improve my English by listening to the radio, watching television, but it does not help me much in improving because they talk too fast and make me confused. Fortunately, I found you site on the internet. It can help me a lot because your teaching is easy to understand. You are speaking clearly and explaining an interesting story. I enjoy it and love learning English.

I like to thank you for everything you teach me and I hope you will produce more useful stuff for everyone who want to master English.

Thank you,
Luk (from Thailand)

Hi there!

I'm a Brazilian student of English in international trading. First of all, I wanna thank you because your podcast is really helping me to improve my English listening/conversation skills. Besides, someday I'll sue you, because I´m getting addicted to podcasts, and I simply can't stop listening to them. For example, now I am watching for the thousandth time the 2nd year anniversary video, and I can't stop laughing (by the way, very good voice Dr. McQuillan and nice hair).

Lucy and Jeff, you are fantastic. I've been trying to find another high level podcast (to this day, no one has ever gotten near of yours!) ESLPOD rules!

Thanks folks!

My best regards,
José (from Brazil)
__________

Dear Dr. Lucy Tse & Dr. Jeff McQuillan,

I recently moved from Switzerland to Toronto/Canada. I hope to improve my English during the next 10 months. Your podcast is a great help to expand my vocabulary. Usually learning vocabulary is the most boring task (besides grammar) in learning a new language, but your podcast makes this task just easier and makes it definitely more fun than browsing through a vocabulary book!

Kind Regards,
Simon (in Canada, from Switzerland)

Hi,

I'm from Santiago, Chile and took the Toefl exam yesterday (Friday). I didn't have much time (about 4 days) to prepare the exam because I need the results right away in order to send my application to the university in the U.S. Due to this, I searched and I found your podcast. I want to thank you for your help, because it was an easy way to practice my English and I could do it while I was on my way to university or while I waited to enter the exam room. The podcasts I specially listened to were the ones where you gave tips for the written part of the Toefl. I must say I used a lot of the things you said.
So thank you again to all the members that make possible this podcast.

Marisol (from Chile)
__________

Dear Jeff and Lucy,

My name is Marina, and I have been living in Israel for the last 13 years. My native language is Russian, and my second one is Hebrew. And with my third language, that is English, I have (really had in the past) a lot of problems, in spite of my working within an American company :)

Although I'm able to deal with the written English, it was impossible for me to start to speak and to understand the English speech. Usually, I did not understand anything that is told in the native speech, but would not get any problem with the same thing that is written. In my work, when I had to speak, I always asked to do it for me for someone else.

It was till I found your site September 2006. Each and every day I burn your lessons on a disk and listen during my driving, 1-1.5 hours a day. Sometimes I'm listening to the same lessons many times.

Now, after 5 months, I'm able to speak English. I started to understand as well. I'm not scared and even curious to try myself in conversation. Just now I've tried to listen to your interview to Rob. To my great surprise, I understand mostly each your and Rob's word. I would like to thank you for your great job.

Thank you,
Marina (in Israel, originally from Russia)

Hi Everyone,

My name is Sergio and I am from Brazil. I like English very much, and I dreamed of the day that I will travel to the United States to know L.A. and all the cities that you, Jeff, talk about in the podcasts. Anyway, I am a fresh listener of your podcast and I would like to thank all the ESL team, specially to you guys, Jeff and Lucy, for the excellent work. I listen to your podcast almost every day when I am commuting (I know this word from you) to my job or to my house.

As I started to listen the podcasts recently, I decided to listen all of them to not lose anything. As I said before, I listen to the podcasts in my way home/work and doing this I spend more than 2 hours a day. So I have plenty of time to listen at least 3 podcasts a day.
Ok, sorry for the huge email, but I like to let you guys know how important you podcast is for me and as I said before, I like English very much, so I couldn't loose the opportunity to practice my writing skills. :)

Hello,

My name is Pawel. I'm from Poland. I'm delighted with ESL Podcast. You do a good job! I've learned English for three years. I know a lot of words and I don't have any problems with reading and understanding. I don't have any problems when I see English words. But things don't go smoothly when I listen to something. So if I have free time, I take my mobile phone and listen to ESL Podcast all time!

I tried studying for 3-4 episodes and I felt that my English has improved a little bit. ESL Podcast help me more to improve my confidence in speaking English in the classroom with my students.

Hi,

I’m a 34 years old Italian girl. I graduated in Economy University of Ancona (Italy) and now I’m leaving and working in Spain.

I’ve studied the English language for many years without satisfactory results, and now I haven’t a lot of time to dedicate to studies (and is really boring to do the same English course time after time), so my intermediate level doesn’t allow me working in the job that I’d like.

Casually I found your website and now I can hear your podcasts with my phone while going to the office on the bus, or when I do homework, and I find them very nice and useful. I’m easily learning a lot of interesting things.

Thanks for spending your time and your dedication for everyone needing to improve his English. You’re doing a great service!

Bye,
Francesca (in Spain, originally from Italy)

Dear Lucy,
Dear Jeff,

I've been listening to your podcasts for quite a while now and I really like the way you help us ESL learners to improve our vocabulary and listening skills. And I truly appreciate your sense of humor, Jeff! More than once, people nervously backed away from me at the bus station or wherever I was at that moment because I had started to laugh out loud from one of your jokes. But experiences like that won't keep me from downloading each new episode!

Thank you very much! I really hope to hear much more from you in the future, so please keep going!

My best wishes,
Sabine (from Germany)

I am very happy to write you this letter. My name is Holly. I am in China. I am a training teacher and one of my foreign friends gave me your website. I do like it. I download the listening and learning guide. I make great progress by listening to your broadcast everyday. What's more, I try to repeat after Dr. Jeff McQuillan, every word, every sentence, even your intonation. You know I do like your voice and your humor! Now I can describe more words by using English, so I enlarged my vocabulary. From every passage I also learned more culture about another country. Thanks very much.

It is a must for me! For I was looking for records adopted for foreign students and could find only VOA Special English. But your podcast is much better, for I can learn more about words and phrases used in everyday talking and I am able to listen at native speakers' rate.

Best wishes and kindest regards,

Hi Dr. Jeff McQuillan and Team,

How are you doin´?

I´m a student from Germany. And I am in the USA for an internship now since February 2nd til middle of August. I started to listen to your Podcast in September last year. I worked at a dental laboratory as a courier driver besides my study three to four times a week for 4 hours. I used this chance to improve my English for my 6 1/2 month staying here (one hour from Philadelphia by car) while driving for the dental lab by listen to your podcast. I knew, that it´s good, but I´ve never expected, that it´s that good. I mean I learned a lot before I came over here, but I didn´t know how much. Your podcast and your work helped me so much, that the employees here in my company made me compliments about my very good English skills. That´s not only my benefit. That´s yours, too. With this e-mail I want you to know that and I would like to say you a big "THANK YOU" for your work and your offer you make with. I realy appreciate that. A big compliment!

Please keep on working with this quality to help people to learn English!

Sincerely,
Jan (from Germany)

I'm a primary teacher in France and since January 2005, I learn English because now I have to teach English to my pupils. Of course I followed a training and I'm voluntary.
I want to thank you very much for your help. Your texts help me to improve my english. It's very interesting, with a lot of different topics. The speaker is a pleasant person who speak about him just to give us additional interest. I cannot give advice to improve your podcasts because they are perfect for me--not too difficult but with a lot of phrases which I can't learn in books. I listen to you when I do other activities like driving, gardening or trekking, and I don't lost my time. Still I know a little English, but thanks to you I can now understand rather well a native person in English.

Thank you very much indeed.

Hi everyone!

My name is Andre from Brazil. I've been listening ESL podcasts for 2 weeks. Usually, I am listening to them on the bus while going to work and returning home. Generally, I am a kind of a skeptic about such kinds of courses (there are a lot of them that promise miracles...). I would say that this one is different. It is made with really good quality (sound, themes, instructors, etc.) and don't annoy the listeners with donation supplication (I know that this is very important though).

That's for it. Congratulations for a real good job!

Andre (from Brazil)

Dear Jeff,

I’m Matteo from Italy. I learned the rules about polite email, so I’ll try to be short. I just listened to your Podcast English Cafè N° 92 and finally decided to write to you.
You provide us, the listeners, with a lot more than you think. You are able to make us feel “one of yours” just by listening to your voice three times a week. It must be a very unusual situation to have so many friends, despite the fact that you probably don’t know most of them. This is the reason why I apologize for having a such as friendly message even if we’ve never met.

Thank you Jeff and Lucy for your generous work. I hope that fate will give me the chance to return your generosity...“fortune favours the brave” doesn't it?

Best regards,
Matteo (from Italy)

Hi Jeff, Hi Lucy and all the other people working on ESLPOD,

Thanks for presenting all these wonderful stories so often to me. You have become a part of my life. Normally I hear your episodes during exercising in the gym or at home when I brush my teeth. It’s quite amazing that you manage to find interesting themes even after two years. THANK YOU.

Hello!

I'm a student from Lyon, France, preparing the TOEFL and TOEIC exams, and I would like to thank Jeff and Lucy for their great work. I listen to the TOEFL Podcast to improve my English for those tests, and also to the ESL Podcast just to have fun hearing English in the metro or on my way to my university.

I wish a long life for your Podcasts, which are for me the best way to learn English language.

Thank you again for your work.

From beautiful Lyon,

Dear Jeff and friends of ESLPodcast,

I'm very glad a friend told me about your podcasts almost 1 year ago, and I'm enjoying them ever since. I found your podcasts wonderful to improve my English and to help keep up with the listening. No words to describe how good it is but Awesome! I wish I had discovered it earlier. Now I tell everybody I know that would be interested.

I'm from Brazil and have advanced English (having studied it for 6 years) and love the language and try to be in contact everyday. I even had the opportunity to live in the USA/Canada for 5 months. Now ESLPodcast is part of my life and I even take Jeff as a friend indeed!

Well, thank you very much for your great job! MUITO OBRIGADO!

Hi!

I'm Eric from France. We are a lot of people who are listening to ESL podcast from the very begining (episode 1). We, me and a polish friend, began with 2 others friends, and now, almost all of our friends are very much enjoying listening to your podcasts. It's the very best one we found to learn english. You spell correctly the words, talk slowly and very clearly, and you are capable in explaining something in English and to make it easy to understand by anybody, with pedagogical maner.

Thank you very much. We will not stop to say to our friends, collegues and others to try to listen your podcasts.

Could you excuse my English, I know it's not perfect, but I began to learn with your first podcast (Baby boomer, King Kong, etc...)

Thank you very much and we wish that you will become more and more popular in the world.

Cordially,
Eric (from France)

Dear Dr. McQuillan,

I am from Poland. My home country is situated between Germany and Russia in Europe. I am 76 years old and I am an engineer with master's degree. Now I am retired. Studying English I treat as a hobby but using the internet it is very useful.

In my opinon, your method of language learning is effective for learners in any age.

__________

Dear Dr. McQuillan,

I am a Spanish listener of your wonderful Podcast. I would like to acknowledge your efforts, as I have improved my English a lot since I started listening to you. Thus, let me say that ESL Podcast is the best English teaching podcast I have ever heard of.

Since Jaime (a donor to ESL Podcast) introduced me to it a couple of months ago, I listen to ESL Pod everyday while going to work by bus. I think ESL Podcast is a very good way of improving my English. Since I work as a bioinformatician at a Cancer Research Center, I read loads of scientific papers everyday but I have, however, a real problem while speaking due to the pronunciation of some words, which is somehow tricky most of the times. Thus, I find it very important to listen regularly to a native speaker.

I do specially like English Cafe series of podcasts as they give an in-depth view of the American culture which is very hard to acquire if not living there. Indeed, the "Ask an American" chapters are in my opinion very interesting as we can listen different voices speaking at a different speed.

Once again, congratulations for producing such a good and interesting PodCast.

Regards,
Txema (from Spain)

I'm thoroughly impressed with the sophistication as well as seemingly copious amounts of effort put into this program. Let me tell you that it's a big help to me and to my students in Brazil who are taking advantage of the program and its resources. Hi Dr. McQuillan,

I am a Ph.D student in computer engineering at the Uof L. I want to thank you and Dr. Tse for your great podcasts. I can say they are best podcasts that I have heard and really perfect. How can I and other listeners to thank you for them? I am here (in the USA) for about eight month and your podcasts help me a lot. I started from the first one when I was in my country and now I have listened to almost 200 of them and I am still listening to them and they more helpful than other things for me. I suggested it to all my friends for improving their English.

Thank you very very much,

God bless you,

Dear Dr. Jeff McQuillan,

My name is Luan and I am from Vietnam. I did the TOEFL iBT 2 weeks ago and just got the result yesterday, I got 71/120. Although my listening skill is the best of 4 skills (because I listen most of the time) but I did get a good mark at it. But anyway, that's a?high score. I don't know why my speaking and writing were good, I didn't practice those two things at all!

I'm writing this to thank you for spending your time teaching people from all over the world. I still listen to your podcasts everyday to make sure I won't forget what I've gained.

Thank you Dr. Jeff McQuillan, I hope you didn't feel bored reading my email. Have a nice day!

I've never written such a long email before!

Luan (from Vietnam)
__________

Dear TOEFL Pod Team,

I appreciate your hard work on TOEFL Pod for all of TOEFL students, your website means a lot to us. I've been listening over and over every single episodes, the idea of lectures suite the purpose of new TOEFL perfectly; after I finished listening to the lectures I found myself repeated all those lectures and recorded myself while I was doing that and have native speaker corrected those recorded. Believe it or not, by doing that I have improved the Speaking Skill. In many times, I know the word but I cannot say it ( it seems like my brain and my mouth don't interact somehow) by doing like I have been doing; the problem has been taken care of. On the other hand, the conversations enlighten me about American Student's life-style and University Culture; I would say.

Best Regard,
Davanh

Hello Dr. Lucy Tse and Dr. Jeff McQuillan!

I could say many things about this great job u guys are doing...but I just wanna say, Thank you! Thank you for making me believe I can do it. My English skills have improved a lot since I started listening to your podcasts...I've been one of your lucky virtual students since the first podcast! I love English Cafe, all I know I owe it all to you.

Jeff--

I want to share with you my admirations about your work. You make thousands of non-native English speaker happy. I recommended your podcast to my ESL-Class and I know that every morning at least 20 New Yorkers listen to your voice in the mornings driving to the school. Also my ESL-teacher - I'm sure he's the best ESL-teacher in the world :) - said "Jeff is good!"

Due to my B.A. in Pedagogics and my long experience in teaching, my evaluation is also a professional one. I know how important is to get (positive) feedback for your work, therefore I decided to write you this.

I really enjoy your podcast!

Dear Lucy and Jeff,
I don't know how to express my deep appreciation. Believe me or not, over the last seven years, I have been desperately looking for a clue to help me through my constant struggle with English. But, I was not successful until recently that I came across the Podcast. Now, I am happy to say that my tenacity finally paid off.

I firmly believe that you ushered in a new era; a new era in which all fellow students, including me, can quench their thirst for Learning English.

Dear sir,

My name is Mehrzad and I live in Bandar-Abbas (South of Iran). Some weeks ago when I was surfing the web, I visited your web site, I downloaded some podcasts and listened to them. It was excellent and I found it very useful, so I decided to download all of your lessons and study them regularly. In these few days I feel improvement in my vocabulary knowledge and my view about the expressions has changed. One of the advantages of your lessons is, when I'm listening to it, I feel I'm in the class and the teacher is?explaining words. Thank you very much.

Best regards,

__________

Hi Jeff and Lucy,

I do not know how I can thank you, to show my appreciation. I am from Turkey and now a graduate student at Indiana University in Indiana, the US. After very serious studying I got a TOEFL score and now I am in the US. As you know to get a TOEFL score is not enough to say I learnt English, especially the first term I could not understand my professors, I could not ask questions and I did not even want to talk with my classmates because I was afraid of speaking. I have two kids, 7 and 4. As I saw their fluent English I was jealous; while I was thinking about which word or which structure is appropriate in this context, they were explaining the situation very clearly and easily.

But now I know the solution. Almost for two months I listened to your wonderful podcast and really I feel better. My conversation partner (also she is my classmate and volunteer to teach how to speak to me) recognized differences and asked "what did you do?" She said that my English especially listening and speaking improves every week. I started off at the beginning of the podcast, and today I listened to number 43. These days I am busy with my classes. My aim is to finish all of them during this summer. After 32 (I can say my age still, not like you) there are no if's, and's, or but's about learning English. By the way, when I have fish, I am planning to name it Jeffish;)))))

Dear Jeff McQuillan,

Well I'm a student from Brazil who had lots of problems learning English. One day I found your podcast while I was studying for TOEFL test, and you saved my life! I got 100% in TOEFL listening test! Now, I'm attending classes at UCSD, thank you! You see how your podcast can change other people's lives? I'm writing to say thank you! You really helped me a lot!!

Well, here in San Diego I listen to 5 podcasts a day, and because of you I can understand everybody around me and really understand what the professor is talking about! But, as far as I know, you are the best English professor I've ever seen! And I doubt I'll meet one better than you!

Thank you for every thing!

Sincerely,
Raphael (from Brazil, in the U.S.)
__________

Hi Jeff,

I started listening to ESLPOD a couple of years ago when my English proviciency was fairly good at reading and speaking, but my listening skills were very bad. Now I understand that I’ve benefited from listening to the episodes because I can understand spoken language both in technical topics (I’m in computer science) and news (BBC, CNN, …). The most exciting part of this is that now I can have access to plenty of information sources which precluded me, including the university lectures on iTunesU and this is very important for my job and the feeling of being part of the world. I still have some problems with English spoken on the TV movies or shows where several people are talking at the same time or the tone of the voice goes up or down according to the speaker’s mood. I hope I will get the hang of it.

Dear Dr. Jeff McQuillan,

I'm Lixin. Through this letter, I want to appreciate you and all staff working for ESL Podcast. I have listened to this program for a half year. I wish I had known the website earlier. I moved to Canada from China a year ago. To learn English faster, I went to the ESL schools and college. It helped me a lot; however, I finally found that your ESL Podcast is the best program. I like your podcast so much. The excellent learning material and your humor never make me feel bored. Now I can communicate with people much better than before.

Again, thank you very much!

My best wishes,

Dear Dr. Jeff McQuillan and Dr. Dr. Lucy Tse,

I am Ly (pronounced /lee/). I am from Vietnam. I moved to the United States 9 months ago. When I first stepped onto the land of America, I couldn't hear a word or say anything to express my ideas in English. Desperately, I surfed the Internet for salvation and came across your wonderful website. I immediately knew this was what I had been looking for! I have listened to ESLPod for 9 months. I listen more and more as days go by. Now, I can listen and understand about 90% what the American natives say and that helps me a lot. I can continue my study thanks to your tremendous and excellent work. I deeply appreciate!

Best wishes to you.

Sincerely,

__________

Dear Jeff, Lucy, and ESLPOD staff,

After being a loyal ESLPOD listener for over 3 years, all I can say is that ESLPOD is one of the most successful ways we have nowadays to learn English for free. When I first found out about ESLPOD back in October 2005, I was unaware of the tremendous rewards I was about to reap. Now, after having listened to hundreds of free ESLPOD lessons, my English is way better than it was in October 2005, when I first heard about this website.

Matching some grammar learning with several hours of English acquisition from ESLPOD has definitely made my English take off in just a few years, which is amazing, even having never taken regular English classes at a language center. Some of the benefits I have gotten from my habit of being an English speaker are making other English speaker friends, being hired to work in my area of study (international trade), which highly demands fluency in English, and traveling abroad (USA) on a college program, where I had the chance to be in touch with native English speakers and get my English even better.

For those who want to improve their English in a more efective way and shorter period of time, take this simple piece of advice: Listen to at least one episode a day of ESLPOD and read along its text, then you will see your English get much, much better in the near future.

Hi Dr. Jeff McQuillan,

I don't know where I should start my letter, doctor, because of you, my language is really improved and I learned the ropes of the language starting from you. I think I'm speaking English fluently now and I became addicted to your ESL Podcast. So please, keep it up.

I started now to tell my friend about your podcast and they enjoy it even if they are good in English.

Thank you very much and enjoy your work.

Dear Jeff,

I'd like to congratulate this amazing podcast! I'm from Brazil and every single morning I update my ipod and go to my work listening the ESL POD by subway.

Every detail is perfect: the quality sound, your pronunciation, even the dialog that we can see on the IPod screen. I can't forget the Learning Guide. Everything is very helpful and awesome!

The English language is in demand, so everyone who ask me about a site, I recommend this one.

I laugh along when you say in many different ways - "In beeeeeeeeeeautiful LA, California!!" It's very funny.

Again, my congratulations and sucess for the whole team!

Hello everybody in beautiful Los Angeles,

I wanted to thank you for the best podcast ever! I was searching for podcasts in the internet to improve my English and after downloading several podcast in the last few years I came across the ESLPod two weeks ago. Wonderful!! That was exactly what I was looking for: a short story imbedding common vocabulary and some difficult words/phrasal verbs and so on which are explained so that everybody is able to understand! Personally, the duration of each podcast is perfect as I can stay focused and concentrated the whole time. Since I found this podcast I try to listen every morning and every evening before I fall asleep to at least one or two of the stories!

Thank you so much for your efforts and the pleasure you're giving to thousands of listeners all around the world!!

Hugs from Zurich, Switzerland.

Dear Jeff,

I'm an Italian listener of ESL podcasts and I'm writing to you to say one thing: THANK YOU!

I met ESLPOD some months ago, while I was surfing the Internet to find out how I can finally improve my listening and comprehension skills of English. I remember someone on a forum who praised you, and I immediately went to iTunes and downloaded the most recent podcasts of that time.

Now, I have about 500 hundred podcasts in my iPod, and I listen to your voice every day, at least one hour a day during my daily travel to work. Needless to say, you have definitely become a friend of mine!

I would like to thank you because during these months I feel I've been able to improve my English as I never had in the past, and be sure I'm one of those guys who took lots of English courses, watched many hours of English-spoken TV shows and movies during his life!

I feel your efforts at ESL must be rewarded somehow. Firstly, I'm going to make a donation through your website shortly. Then, I would like to push my friends to hear your podcasts like me. I think this is the best thing I can do to support your activity!

All the best for you, Lucy and all your families.

Marco (from Italy)
__________

Dear Lucy, Jeff and all of the staff of ESL Podcast,

I always listen to your podcast on the packed commuter train on the way to and from Tokyo. As soon as I get on the train, my English lesson starts. My private teacher is...Dr. Jeff McQuillan, of course. His explanation is very simple to understand with lots of examples (funny ones). The class is amusing enough with the well-written witty script but in addition to that, he is always being comical so that I can't help laughing in spite of being on the crowded train! (People around me may wonder what I'm listening to). Your podcast had changed my daily commuter time from a long and boring waste of time to a brilliant and enjoyable English lesson!

I always try to remember my questions so that I can write to you. But I keep forgetting. And I really wanted to tell you how much I appreciate you, so I'm writing just that.

Thank you very much and please keep on going.

BTW, I like both of your voices.

Hello Dr. Jeff McQuillan,

My name's Thiago and I live in Brazil, more specifically in Campinas located in São Paulo. I would like to declare that I'm very impressed about the podcast, first because this is a voluntary podcast and second because you have an excellent method to introduce the English skills into the people's lives living in a foreign country where the English is not the first language. In my particular case, I'm working in a big company for software and services where I use the English to write a lot of emails, to have chat and to meet with other peoples around the world, and I keep learning English to improve and increase my vocabulary as well. One of the methods that I use is your podcast, because it is a good tool to help me with that.

Thank you for receiving my feedback and we'll meet in the podcasts, a good place to learn English.

Dear Lucy,
Dear Jeff,

I want to thank you for your podcast. For over thirty years I tried to get your language, with very little success. But in August I've heard on a German radio station about your podcasts and since then I listened to them every day.

And different from my school lessons and different from my attempts to learn English by watching movies. I understand and learn a lot about your language and your country. I deleted all the music from my IPod and downloaded your podcasts and every morning and every evening on my way to the office I'm listening and learning. I'm so grateful to you for this opportunity! Of course I'm a member.

Thank you and best wishes from Hanne in Germany to you in the beautiful city of L. A.

Dear ESL staff,

I am a 24-year-old Italian girl who would like to compliment you for your fantastic podcasts. I studied English and German at the University of Genoa (Italy) for three years, but I don't think my English knowledge is as good as it should be. Unfortunately I have never had the opportunity to improve my language skill in an English speaking country. In November I moved from Berlin to Luxembourg with my boyfriend (he got a job here) and I am looking for a job. Luxembourg is a small multilingual State in the heart of Europe. Here everyone speaks perfectly at least 3 languages!! This is the reason I've been taking French and German classes, but I can't afford an English course as well! Your lessons help me a lot and I think they teach us very common expressions, typical in every day communication (what we were not taught in the Uni!).

Thank you for helping me!! It's a pleasure to hear your podcasts everyday!

Keep it up!!

Ciao!

Dear Members of the ESL Team,

I am very happy to write a letter to all ESL Team Members, especially Dr. Jeff Mc Quillan and Dr. Lucy Tse, whose voice I hear every once in a while.

I am Abdullah from Afghanistan – Herat province. I have been listening to ESL podcasts for two years, beginning when I was a primary English student. And now this program made me able to participate in the TOEFL test, and fortunately passed the test, and I will be in the USA as a Foreign Language Teacher Assistant, for 10 months.

I really owe all ESL Team Members. I appreciate their hard efforts in this field and wish them a long life.

Hello Dr. McQuillan,

I'm Omar and I'm Italian. At the moment I'm living in Vancouver and I'm studying English by using your podcast. I think it is a good method to learn English.

I'm just at the beginning. I'm listening to podcast number 31 and I'm getting better very fast. You're a very good teacher and also very fun. I'm going almost everyday to library and I'm listening to the podcast carefully. Your explanations are clear.

I still remember when I heared the podacsts for the first time. I didn't understand anything but now I understand and I'm very happy.

So, I want tell you, thanks for your work. For me, it is very important to learn English.

Have a good day!

Omar (from Italy, in Canada)
__________

Dear ESL Podcast Team,

You guys are TRUE HEROES!!! There are no words I can use to express my appreciation and gratefulness towards to you. Many people cannot afford good English language courses and you guys are doing such a great job by providing so many people around the world with these excellent ESL Podcast shows.

I have listened to your podcasts since I started my international communication study (roughly 4 years ago) in the Netherlands and without you guys...I would never be able to speak and know so many useful words and understand the American culture.

The truth is I am an immigrant here in the Netherlands and the irony is as my Dutch gets better and better I feel less and less welcome in this country (by realizing discrimination and prejudiced minds), and as my English gets better and better, I realize that we all are part of this world and ecosystem, as you would say. So the English language is actually a sort of *redemption* for me and I do really mean it.

I wish you all the best and good luck with what you are doing!

God bless you.

Regards,
Y. (from The Netherlands)

Keep up the good job and good luck in your work.

Dear Jeff,

No words can possibly describe my feelings of gratitude towards you. Over the last two and a half years, I have been feeling a great improvement in my English skills, and this is due to the great job that you've been doing. Not only are you helping people to increase their knowledge but also giving them a new perspective of life.

__________

Hello Dr. Lucy Tse and Dr. Jeff McQuillan,

It is just amazing to experience how effective your method is, really. My background is not languages, but improving on my English really became like a hobby for me. So I have tried out quite a lot of CD-courses, textbooks and other things to polish up my English, and they were all good, but none of them ever taught me as many idioms, useful words, fun phrases in that a short time as ESL Podcast did. The amazing thing is, that you podcast makers somehow manage to keep the dialogs interesting and stimulating, no matter how advanced we listeners are. So however good your English is, you can only benefit from listening to these podcasts, and once you improved your listening and verbal skills, you can still keep listening because Dr. Lucy Tse and Dr. Jeff McQuillan always come up with something new you hadn't heard before and you then think, 'oh, that comes in handy; I didn't know that.'“

I hope you never stop making podcasts – I mean I'm not the kind of person who regularly follows TV series and those things, but your podcasts are quite addictive.

Thank you so far and all the best,
Jan (from Germany)

Hi Jeff and Lucy,

I just want to thank you for all the work you do. I am Italian and I live in London. After 5 years I was still struggling with my English. Thanks to your podcast, my English has improved very quickly and I feel more confident now. The way you teach in the podcast is amazing. I couldn't find any other better way to learn English.

I will make a donation soon. Please never stop this great source of English.

Thank you so much.

Hello everyone!

I have been listening to ESL Podcasts for 4 years! When I moved to Canada, I realized that all the expressions I learned listening to the podcasts are really used by people here (very often)! I learned it from my experience. If you are planning to move to the US or to Canada, I highly recommend to learn English by listening to ESL Podcasts.

It is also great if you are subscribed to the scripts of the podcasts, because the scripts contain a lot of cultural information, explaining the different aspects of life here on the North American continent. To me, they were really useful!

Dear Lucy and Jeff,

First I'd like to say: Thanks a lot for your work, for your efforts, for your brilliant podcasts! I have listened to them for about one year almost every day, and I believe my English is getting better and better. Recently I found I don't need any translators anymore to talk to my foreign partners! And this result is yours, too. Now I believe you are almost my relatives or, at least, my old friends :-) Thanks again for your good sense of humour, patience and creativity. And I wish you all the best!

Cordially yours,
Alexey (from Russia)

Drs. Jeff and Lucy,

I just can't find suitable words to say how grateful I am to you. Your podcasts not only are by far the best I've ever found, but they are also inspiring, comforting and absolutely enjoyable. Thanks to your excellent work. I've learned not only how to speak English adequately, but also appropriately, fluently and even with elegance. Any time I am asked for a source for learning English I don't hesitate to say "Eslpod" is the best you can find, and almost incredibly, it' available for free!

Sending a warm hug from beautiful Cali, Colombia to the people in beautiful Los Angeles and around the globe. God bless you!

Hi guys,

I'm Matheus and I've already sent some message for you. I'm from Brazil and I'm 15 years old. Well, I'm sending you a message because you guys (even if you don't know what's going on) have been helping me a lot, really, with my English. I stopped taking an English course here in my town, because I felt it was not sufficient to improve my English and I'm feeling honestly alright about that. I had thought I could regret my decision, but I really did not. I know I'm on the right track, because I'm learning loads of words and at my ex-course I sincerely was learning nothing compared to it. I really like to study, but all my previous attempts were unsuccessful until I found out the greatest website to learn English ever, really!

You guys have no idea what it means to me. I decided to share my happiness with you, so you can feel what I'm feeling at the moment. I think it can give you guys a real boost to continue producing the podcast.

I'm doing a lot better on my listening skill. I am able to understand movies with native speech, a thing that I was unable to do before. I set my goals. I really take care of my future. I'm really concerned about it. And with you guys I learned how to study English, easily, but in a very successful way! And that's it, a little bit about thoughts of a foreign student who really wants to learn a lot of things and be very successful in a happy way!

Thank you very much for everything you've been offering to me, and to thousands students throughout the world!

God bless you all every single day for your desire to help people who have dreams and want to make them come true!!!!

All the best,
Matheus (from Brazil)

Dear Dr. Jeff and Dr. Lucy,

My name is Antonio and I’m living in Rome, Italy. It? is now eight or nine months since I stared listening to your podcasts and more? recently I’ve also become a learning guide member. I just wanted to tell you ho?w grateful I am for being able to enjoy your wonderful work. I’ve seen that you? have been praised a lot already, but I also think that one never gets bored with? praise! Even if you are, let me express my feelings for my own satisfaction.

I find your podcasts are an incredible mixture of knowledge and talent in writi?ng, acting and teaching; they are really an example of, one may say, ‘emotional’? intelligence. I am myself a teacher (music teacher) and I’ve been writing diffe?rent kinds of lessons for my students (I’m two years older than Jeff), so I am a? ware of how skillful one must be to write such scripts as Dr. Lucy does and to? present them in such a humorous and precise way as Dr. Jeff does. Moreover, everything looks so easy and fun. I tell you, there are no podcasts like yours in t? he whole web, and now, having nearly reached the number of one thousand, it is g?oing to be very difficult for anybody to do better than you. I’ve also very much? appreciated your generosity, because giving so many files for free shows, accor?ding to me, a quality in your character.

Hi, Jeff and Lucy

Thank you for your great podcast. This is Shigeki from Japan. I have been reading the learning guide for a month. I had listened to the podcast in a train that I take when I go for work and back home without reading the learning guide till I started to be a member.

Lately, I found myself improving in listening to English. I used to think that I could not increse my vocabulary any more at the age of 44, but your learning guide made it possible. So I ‘d like to thank you.

Good day, dear Jeff, Lucy, and all of the ESLPOD team,

My name is Elena and I'm from Russia. I want to say thanks to you for your good job! I've been listening your podcasts every day for about a year and now I can read books even without a dictionary, can understand English by ear, and know the meanings of my favorite songs.

This is all because of you. Once again, THANK YOU!

Dr. Lucy Tse and Dr. Jeff McQuillan:

Words cannot express how appreciative of you I am. My close friend was the first to introduce your website to me. I've been keeping up with you for 9 months!

To me, it's been a great fortune to learn from linguists like you. I always start the day by going through your website and downloading Podcasts, if new. This morning I found myself thinking "what would I do without you?" Now I feel confident because my English has improved even to the point of having no trouble communicating with native speakers. I'm no longer being given away by my accent!

Best wishes,

Hello from Paris!

It has been more than one year since I first listened to ESL podcast. As a Brazilian living in France, it was difficult to improve my English level, but I'd like to share with you my Bulats test result I got this morning! It was "transformed" into my company's score which goes from 0 to 5. So now, instead of a 3 in English, I have a 4!

As I don't have anyone to whom I can speak in English, you were basically my only source of learning. As I realized that I could better understand what was being said, I started also to listen to other podcasts in English -- not foccused on learning but on other different subjects.

I'm very happy today and I thank you for all your work and dedication. It's definitely worth it!

Thank you very much!

Dear Dr. Lucy Tse and Dr. Jeff McQuillan,

I am writing to THANK YOU and express how GRATEFUL I AM for the SUPERB job you have been doing for millions of people who are not only advancing their English but also being educated, informed with necessary knowledge. I am a new immigrant from Azerbaijan, living in New York and from the start, I can realize better how valuable your audio files are, especially English Cafe. I actually think USCIS should promote ESLPOD to every single immigrant entering the U.S.

Thank you very, very much to all the ESLPOD producers. By the way Dr. McQuillan, sometimes your jokes make me look stupid in the subway because commuters think I am laughing by myself :)

Hello Dr. Jeff and Dr. Lucy,

Finally I decided to tell you what I did in the last two years. I downloaded all your podcasts and listened to all of them many times, then I got a high score on the TOEFL test, then I got a scholarship from my government, and now I'm on my way to the USA to study law and legal studies at GGU (Golden Gate University in San Francisco) to get a S.J.D in law. Let me tell you, all that was due to your website. I promise a day I will visit you and say to you: thanks and many thanks.

Hi Jeff,

My name is Baziyare and I am from Somalia now living in Seattle, WA, but, I also lived in the beautiful city of Minneapolis, Minnesota near the biggest Mall of America in the US and perhaps in the world.

I have been listening to ESLPod for free. Thanks to you and Dr. Lucy Tse. Before Eslpod, I could barely fill out an application, let alone express myself in English, but now I can express myself in English on interviews, on a date, or even in or at social settings. Jeff, thanks again. You pulled out all the stops to improve our English. Lucy (the only Dr. Lucy Tse) thanks to you. You bent over backwards to help us learn English faster. Thanks also to the behind the scenes ESLPod crew who worked their butts off to enable us pick up English this fast. I would also like to mention that I became a Premium Member on ESLPod to help keep this audio podcast free for others.

Finally I was wondering if Jeff has ever talked about the Mall of America in Minneapolis and it's beautiful rides and restaurants on a English cafe. I like Minnesota not only because Jeff is from there but it's also a home for my family, except for me!

Dear Dr. Lucy Tse and Dr. Jeff McQuillan,

Thank you so much for your great work! You find time for making podcasts every day and spare neither strength nor your own time for your listeners. You both helped me and other people all over the world so much that I think all must say to you, THANKS A LOT, LUCY AND JEFF!

With the help of your podcasts I improved my listening skills a lot. They helped me to reach a high score in my TOEFL iBT half a year ago, but still I'm listening to your work. I hope you and your podcasts will help me to achieve more goals in future! I appreciate so much your deeds and gifts for all people who learn English!

It's wonderful that there are such great people as you, Dr. Lucy Tse and Dr. Jeff McQuillan! God save you!

Hello Dr. McQuillan,

My name is Mohamad. I'm a student from Iran studying information technology. I got some of your podcast about two months ago from one of my friends and when I listened to them. I found them really wonderful!

Before listening this podcast, I tried many different ways and programs, such as Tell Me More, Rosetta Stone, Learn to Speak English, and some Persian tutorials, etc. But none of them satisfied me. I have downloaded all of your Podcasts and English Cafes and TOEFL Pods. I really appreciate you for producing this podcast. I don't know if this email is truly grammatical, but I just want to thank you so much.

Best regards

Dear Jeff,

I am Omar. I am originally from Iraq and I am living in Little Rock, Arkansas now to study at UALR (University of Arkansas at Little Rock).

Here, I am just writing this letter to express my sincere appreciation to you and of course to Lucy and the rest of the staff for this great program. I am a listener to this podcast for about one year. Needless to say, you are my best and closest friend through the last year. I listen to you every day and follow your lead.

I tried a lot to learn English and I always failed. I took several classes in English but no go. Since I am old for learning a new language (44 years old) I thought it is impossible for me to learn English and all the effort I put in is just a lost cause. But when I started listening to podcast, I changed my mind. It is possible for me to learn a new language. Yes, after one year I now can talk fluently and my listening skills improved so much. My pronunciation is highly improved and the main thing I have gotten is the improvement in the melody and inflection of saying the words and the sentences. Before the podcast, I was speaking English as I spoke Arabic (my native language) and listeners always ask me to repeat what I said. After the podcast, I am now be able to get through to the listeners easily.

I think the podcast is the best English program ever and it is the only way that English learners can brush up their English skills very fast.

I just wanted to say that: Jeff, thank you very much for your wonderful and helpful program.

Omar (from Iraq, in the U.S.)

Dr. Jeff McQuillan,

I want to thank you for your podcast.

For my studies, I need a score of 750 on the TOIEC for my graduation. I passed for the third time the TOIEC and I had 770 (listening 460 and reading 310).
Today, if I succeeded on my TOIEC, it's because I listened to your podcast every day for several weeks.

Thank you.

__________

Dear Mr. Jeff McQuillan and Ms. Lucy Tse,

HATS OFF TO YOU BOTH! I fall short of the appropriate words to tell you how immensely happy I have been since the day I started listening to your podcasts. Amazing, simply amazing job! The efforts you both have been putting in to make English learning an effortless process are not just commendable, they are beyond comparison. I have never come across such practically useful stuff for learning the English language and its nuances. Your scripts and the way they are explained, the phrasal verbs, idiomatic expressions and different ways of saying things in English, are simply awesome; matchless, to be more precise.

These podcasts come in handy in teaching and learning both, and give one an accurate idea of what phrasal verbs and idiomatic expressions in the English language are all about.

Since I am an English teacher, and have been teaching for over fifteen years, I find your podcasts a very useful aid for my students as they get a very accurate idea of saying things correctly using the correct sentence structure, in addition to getting to know how a particular word is pronounced in English.

That's it for now. Thanks a ton once again for all your efforts.

Regards,
Imran (from India)Hi Dr. Lucy Tse and Dr. Jeff McQuillan,

I am writing from Catalonia (Spain) to thank you both for these fantastic podcasts. They are helping me a lot to improve my English comprehension and conversation skills.

In my particular case, before starting to listen to your podcasts, I had already reached an advanced level of English when - by chance - I discovered your website. Nonetheless, I had studied British English, since here in Europe most "academies" teach this variant of English, which is quite understandable due to its proximity. But in an increasingly globalized world, more and more of the American English is becoming - if not already is - the most spoken variety of English language. For example, in the movies most characters speak with an American accent, which at first is difficult to understand if you are not accustomed to it. Moreover, a lot of colloquial expressions or slang, which are not taught at schools, are used in the everyday life. In that respect, ESL Podcasts are extremely useful, since a lot of idiomatic expressions are used and later explained. Also, the pronunciation is slow and very clear, which helps understanding of the podcasts to the fullest.

I have recommended your site to all my friends who are studying English as a second language, and I have to say it, those who listened to one of the podcasts got hooked on ESLPODs; they thanked me a lot!

Quim (from Spain)

Dear Dr. McQuillan:I just wanna say thank you. I am a physician and I came to the USA for 4 months to Miami, Fl. At the beginning, I was scared because of the language and communication. I faced many problems because of my somewhat non-fluent English. When I found your podcast, I feel it is really awesome. I downloaded them from the first one and stayed for all the four months hearing every day one. At the end I discovered how you are doing a lot of effort and how useful it is. After I came back to my home to Egypt, I discovered your English Cafe podcast, which really became my fourth meal after dinner every day. My English grew and improved much under your hands. I will come to the USA next month but this time I am ready for it.

Thanks again.

Sincerely yours,

__________

Dear Jeff,

I have been trying to learn English for years and years. I've acquired a pretty good understanding of written English, but my oral level has always been way behind. After trying tens (and tons) of "oral english improvement systems," in all the media types you could imagine, I found your wonderful podcast and finally got rid of all the frustrating experiences from the past. The improvement is so amazingly fast that I advanced from understanding only a few words to the comprehension of almost everything you say in less than three months! Of course I still have a lot of grammar and vocabulary to learn ahead, but that, far from disappointing me, makes it only more exciting and challenging. In my opinion (and I'm sure a lot of people will share it), you've produced the most effective podcast possible in its genre. I can't even imagine how it could be better!

Finally, I´d like to thank you for the incredible job you (and your team) are doing for all of us. Congratulations and, again, thanks!

Dear Jeff and Lucy, and everybody who works at ESLPOD!

I am gratefull a lot for your immense and very useful work. I began learning English at elementary school when I was a 9-year-old boy but I found out how fun it might be only after I've heard Jeff. Since that time I listen constantly to ESLPOD everywhere when I have some free time, especially in buses, the subway and planes.

Thanks to your team I've got the job of my dreams. I recently became a pilot of "Aeroflot - Russian Airlines". Moreover I need to mention that all pilots who fly internationally have to pass ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) English language proficiency test for a level 4. This requires mostly ability to speak and contemplate in English. I could have never passed it without your great podcasts. I even became the best student in my trainee group. I strongly recommend your podcasts to my colleagues. Even though I won't fly to the US in the cockpit in the very near future, I hope to do it as a tourist. Certainly the first city I will visit in the US will be beautiful LA.

I wish you health and continuation of the rejoicing of learners from all over the world by your masterpieces!

Dear Dr. Jeff McQuillan, Dr. Lucy Tse, and everyone working on this amazing podcast,

This is Estelle from Taiwan. I just wanna say thank you very very much.

My story with ESL Podcast started in 2009 when I was preparing for the TOEFL ibt test. As a Chinese speaker, I had a big problem in listening. So I started to listen to English podcasts in order to improve my listening skill. ESL Podcast was the best one among all the English learning podcasts I found at that time. I always listened to this podcast on the bus. The length was perfect, not too long, not too short. And the slow dialogue was helpful for non-native speakers. I really benefited from this podcast.

Finally, I got 27 out of 30 on my listen part of TOEFL test. I cannot make it without your help. I've moved to *"beautiful Los Angeles"* and will start my grad school this coming fall at Pepperdine University.

Thank you very very much again.

Best Regards,
Estelle (from Taiwan)

Dear Dr. Jeff McQuillan and Dr. Lucy Tse,

I have been listening to your podcasts for about five months, and they really helped me improve my English. The first podcast I heard was “ESL
Podcast 241 – At the Bakery." It was absolute wonderful. Then I began to listen to many more of your podcasts. They all brought me not only knowledge, but also confidence in my life.

I like how you rephrase something in different ways, so it can be much easier to understand. Also, I’ve learned from you how to pronounce something
correctly, and to use grammar in the right way. Now with your help, listening has become more exciting because I can understand almost everything you say.

Thank you so much!

Yours sincerely,
Hoang Nhi (from Vietnam)

Hello guys,

I'm writing to say that I`m very thankful to you. You are doing a great job and helping lots of people around the world. Today I can say I know English just because of you. I know I learned the most through your podcasts and English Cafés. The English Cafés are my favorites because while I improve my English, I can also learn something about American culture and people.

I used to listen to the podcasts while commuting to work and that was the key for my learning. Before discover the ESL Podcast, commuting was a waste time. Today, I watch movies without subtitles, understand most of the songs in English, etc.

Thank you very much!!

Dear Dr. Jeff McQuillan,
I am Jie from China. I found ESL recently and I love it so much. I love it at a slightly slower rate and then normal speed. I love your comments about every topic and I love your voice as well.I learned English in high school and university in China, but we only attached importance to English reading and writing at that time, so my English listening and speaking are bad. Now I am so glad ESL is helping me to improve my English listening and speaking skills. I enjoy these podcasts so much.I appreciate that you give your time and everything for us. Every day when I listen to you at the podcast, my heart is filled with respect and thankfulness. Thank you very much.Sincerely,Jie (from China)
__________

Dear Jeff,

I've been listening to your podcast for about 2.5 years. I admit I really hated the fact that I wasn't a very good student in my English classes back in school. There were "audition lessons" that especially bothered me because I haven't been getting anything at all. In fact, I thought I'll never learn how to not only speak fluently but even read in English. And sort of like that I missed my chance in the very young age.

It was a long story discovering your podcast, I've been listening to a podcast by a programmer from Russia, now living in Chicago, Illinois. And he said that if you guys want to improve your English, here is another podcast called ESLPod, and here is a Ph.D. who specializes in teaching English for non-native speakers. His story and the fact that there are other "success stories" in acquiring English language skills encouraged me to start to listen to your podcast. And I was amazed about my comprehension skills -- I was able to understand every single word! I remember the first 001 introductory episode just like it was yesterday. Although it was a little bit stressful to concentrate on distinguishing single words by their pronunciation and recalling their meanings -- it used to take a fair amount of time and effort to do these things in a "real-time" fashion. But soon after I managed to not pay attention to words but rather phrases and their meanings. Just like your friend and colleague, Warren Ediger wrote in his blog.

The miracle, or enlightenment, if you will, that I experienced is that I felt something was wrong with the way they used to teach English back in my school, but I couldn't put words to it. I was not a total newbie though, because I, as a programmer, used to read a fair amount of technical papers, articles, and so forth. But it was relatively easy because these texts are composed primarily of professional terms which I knew.

Now I can listen to online courses from, say, Stanford or MIT, which are really great and useful. The format of a podcast is very convenient way for people to obtain English, because you can use portable players during, your commute whether on a bus or a car, ride a bike, or when you clean your house for example. I live alone and for those who are like me, listening to podcasts is the way to feel like there is someone else here who is interested in telling you something, say funny jokes, a song, and that sort of thing -- any time I want to -- which is very helpful psychologically. Especially I love the English Cafe series. They are more relaxed and entertaining, compared to regular podcasts which are more fast-paced if you will.

I really feel like I'm an old friend of yours, I know where you live, where you came from, what you like and dislike, and have heard many stories of your life. Now when I hear you asking about the support of your podcast, I feel really proud. I really cannot imagine my life without you and your podcasts, so I wish you health and please stay on the air.

I want to say thank you to the wonderful scriptwriter, Dr. Lucy Tse. From the city of Yekaterinburg, Russia, I'm Oleg saying thank you, my friend Jeff.

Hello Jeff and Lucy,

I have been listening to ESL Podcast every day from 2011. I am originally from Iraq and living now in Arkansas from 2010. When I first came here to Little
Rock, Arkansas, I had a terrible accent and a horrible way of speaking full of grammatical mistakes. Since I am old (now 46 years old), I thought it is impossible to me to learn a new language. But that thought didn't last long. With Jeff and Lucy I was able to improve my accent and speaking and listening skills significantly. I am not complimenting you guys too much. I am just telling the truth. ESL Podcast is such a wonderful English learning program and I am so glad that I was able to find that website. In fact, listening to ESL can improve the listening and speaking and also increasing the vocab and provide cultural information. The sense of humour of Jeff really sweetens the pot. I also like the last part of the episode (the one with the normal speed or the native rate of speech). I usually listen to that part several times because it is training my ears.

Thank you, Jeff. Thank you, Lucy.

As a long-time member of ESL Podcast, I’ve used these lessons in teaching general ESL, EAP, IELTS, Business English and more. These podcasts lend themselves well to teaching across various levels and to various class sizes ranging from a single student to large groups. These podcasts are very well designed and presented, they are entertaining and informative, and are an excellent resource for teaching communicative English. The wide variety of themes and topics guarantees that there will be something for everyone.

ESL Podcasts work great as a base around which to build a complete lesson plan incorporating several different skills, and also as filler material. They are a great change of pace from textbook learning as well. These lessons are also wonderful homework or self-study material, and another huge benefit is their ease of use for substitute teachers. To the creators and presenters: Keep up the great work! I know that teachers and students far and wide are benefitting from your efforts. Your podcasts are truly one of best teaching tools out there.

Thanks again, Jessica, Jeff, Lucy, and team – I’ll be back for more as soon as I am able to obtain a new teaching position.

All the best,
Judith (in the U.S.)

Hi,
I want to thank you, Dr. Jeff McQuillan and Dr. Lucy Tse, for everything I learned from ESL Podcast. I listen everyday when I am cycling to work and when I am returning from it. When I am cycling to the supermarket, to a friend's house...well a listen a lot! =)
I love the way that Jeff says "...from beautiful California..." differently everyday. Each time I listen I smile. It's very funny the fact that Jeff does not like cats! And his personal comments are very funny and intelligent. And I think Jeff is a pretty good singer too!
The scripts are amazing. Lucy is very creative and clever -- very funny too. And I love the way it ends. Her voice is very beautiful and mild/soft too. Very good to listen to, like an angel.
The English Cafe is amazing. I really liked the episode about the Panama Canal, and about the presidents. So much culture. I watched many movies suggested by Jeff.
I think you both are very talented in teaching, very talented, very charismatic, too. When I listen to the podcasts, I feel like I am having a relaxed conversation with a very close friend of mine. I fell relaxed and glad. I don't even see the time to pass.
Thanks for everything.
Best regards

Hello Dr. Jeff Mc.Quillan and your perfect team members. This is Sarah and I'm Korean. I am literally one of the biggest fans of ESLPodcast in the whole world.
I had actually studied English in beautiful San Francisco last year and I came back to Korea last December. But I knew I still needed to keep studying English. That's why I have been studying English through your amazing lectures since I came back home.
Honestly, I had used tons of materials to improve my English since I was little such as books for the TOEFL, TOEIC, Telephone English courses, etc. Even though I put lots of effort into many books and spent most of my time on them, I realized one thing which was that I couldn't "do" English. I thought "Ok, I might become a good test taker of the TOEFL, or whatever, but I couldn't do just normal, natural speaking English."It made me desperate 'cause I knew I just analyzed and treated English like Math. In the middle of this January - you know it's freezing cold in Korea - I found ESL Podcast using my iPAD, by chance. At first, I started to listen to your interesting lessons while I was taking a walk in the park. And then I listened to the lessons wherever I went, and these days I start my morning listening to ESL Podcast at my desk with a cup of coffee.
The scripts are very interesting and I can listen to the lessens again and again whenever and wherever I want. The most amazing thing is I found my confidence in using English. Nowadays, I just enjoy listening and speaking English not just for tests or grammar. So, I want to thank to you and your team members. I hope you have a great day in beautiful L.A. and thank you so much!
Best regards,
Sarah (from South Korea)

Good morning Jeff!
My name is Leroi. My native language is Spanish. I have a bachelor's in business and finance from the University of Puerto Rico and an MBA from the University of New Orleans. I've been a financial advisor for 12 years in Puerto Rico with a couple of brokerage firms but the severe local recession had a negative effect in my industry and I had to emigrate to Orlando, FL. Now I am a banker with JP Morgan Chase. About 80% of the clients that walk in are Hispanic and, even though I speak some English I feel very insecure with my language skills.

I just wanted to thank you and let you know that I admire what you do. Your podcasts have helped me a lot to speak and understand slang, idioms and native expressions that I didn't understand and to gain some confidence. And in this transition in my life with limited economic resources, a free source (and the best teacher and course ever), your podcasts are the best thing that I've found from a lot courses that were free but very basic or very expensive. I listen to you everyday driving to and from work. Thanks again!!

Greetings Jeff and Lucy,

I meant to email you at least 8 years ago! This email has been way overdue. However, I couldn't postpone it any longer because I wanted you to know how awesome you are for doing this for us for a whole decade! Can you believe that! In 2005 (if I didn't remember wrong), a friend introduced me to your podcasts and at that time you had just started the very first lessons! I was one of your very first listeners! How times has flown by! And I appreciate you so much for staying with us for so long!
Back then I had only been in the US for a little over a year. I could barely understand English but that day my search for a good English learning program stopped. I immediate fell in love with you guys! I love how you always spelled out new words and give detailed explanations, Jeff. Honestly this is one of the best ways to learn English I've ever experienced! And you are such a goofy teacher, too--haha! I love how you say "beautiful Los Angeles" and love your sense of humor! I also enjoy your singing too ;) And thank you for all the wonderful scripts Lucy! I'm all out of words to express my appreciation towards your dedication and hard work! I'm still listening to your podcast every day and so happy that things pretty much stay the same. There has been so many things that have changed in this world in the last 10 years but good things like this don't have to change and please don't leave us :)
I LOVE YOU GUYS AND THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH MULTIPLIED BY 1000 TIMES FOR ALL YOU DO!!!!!
Love,
TK (in the U.S.)
